Outlook 2007 missing “Archive” in File Menu

The “Archive …”  tool doesn’t exist inside the File menu on Microsoft Outlook 2007.

It is really comfortable.

Basically you must follow these steps:

  • Close Outlook
  • Click on Start
  • Click on Run
  • Type RegEdit and
  • Click OK
  • Expand To My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preference
  • Set DisableManualArchive value data to 0
  • Close RegEdit

Start your outlook again.. and your “Archive …” should be there.

What if “DisableManualArchive” isn’t a choice in the registry?

There is a choice of “AutoArchiveFileNumber” that is set to “1”, however, I have tried setting it to “0” (close/restart Outlook)–no effect; and then reversing back to “1” also with no effect.

I have tried resetting the file menu and don’t see ‘archive’ anywhere in any of the choices for any of the menus.

Also, I have fixed/removed/reinstalled the entire Outlook portion of the MSFT Enterprise that I have.

All of these are to no avail. Any other ideas? Is there a differnt way to log into my local profile that would give me additional “admin” options; even though I am already an ‘admin’ on my home computer.

If it makes any difference, I am running XP Pro on an Asus Eee PC with the MSFT Enterprise installed. Thanks, Cheers,

The fix for this is actually removal of a recent Microsoft Update.
To uninstall it, go to Control Panel, Programs, Installed Updates, and look for update KB2412171. Uninstall it and AutoArchive comes back and Outlook starts to perform better. 🙂 Hopefully this will solve your problem.
It took me a while to hunt up the problem and the solution, too.

I even tried by creating the DWORD “DisableManualArchive” in the HIVE and setting it to 0. No Archive in FILE menu or under TOOLS | OPTIONS. The Dec 2010 UPDATE KB2412171 was never installed on this PC–Dell Vostro 1520 WINXP Prof SP3.

I have the same issue of not having the Archive in the File Menu. I am using Microsoft Office Professional and when I check the updates there is not one called KB2412171. Do you know if there is an update for Office Professional to remove to get the Archive back?

Hi Garth, could you tell us the following info:

      – OS
      – version of your Microsoft Office Professional?

      Let me know.
      Thanks in advance.

    GARTH,
Since my Outlook 2007 had the Archive in the FILE menu until anout a month ago and since LAST YEAR, I doubt if there was a previous update (B4 KB2412171) that may have caused the issue.

I just opened Add or Remove and again reviewed the list specifically pertaining to Outlook 2007 and here is what I have–
DANG!!!!! if the KB2412171 was NOW there and last week when I checked it WAS NOT!!!

I removed the KN2412171 and <<>> in the FILE DROP down and it again also shows under TOOLS | OPTIONS | OTHER dialog box.

    STRANGE

    MY ISSUE IS RESOLVED.
